Director Bryan Singer has revealed via Instagram that Kodi Smit-McPhee has joined the cast of X-Men: Apocalypse as Nightcrawler.
Singer wrote, "Excited to welcome @kodismitmcphee to the cast of #XmenApocalypse as young #Nightcrawler."
Kurt Wagner aka "Nightcrawler" is a mutant with indigo-colored skin whose primary mutant power is the ability to teleport himself from one point to another virtually instantaneously. Created by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum, the character debuted in the comic book Giant-Size X-Men #1 (May 1975).
Actor Alan Cumming first played Nightcrawler in 'X2: X-Men United'. Kodi Smit-McPhee (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Let Me In) will play a younger version of the character.
Smit-McPhee joins Rose Byrne, who will reprise her role as CIA agent Moira MacTaggert, along with new additions Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Oscar Isaac as the ancient mutant supervillain Apocalypse/En Sabah Nur.
Set in the early '80s, 'X-Men: Apocalypse' will focus on the young cast featuring Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence).
