[ad name="468×60-text-ad"]
The official Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer arrived with much fanfare, but left many with questions about the characters and the plot. Let's analyze each shot and answer the top 10 questions fans have so far. Update: Lucasfilm has announced the names of the main characters! "Many Bothans died to bring us this information."
1. "There's Been an Awakening, Have You Felt It?"
Andy Serkis ('Lord of the Rings' trilogy, 'The Hobbit' trilogy, 'Planet of the Apes' reboots) provides the voice over in the trailer. The Jedi don't only "use the force" they can feel a disturbance in the force as well.
2. John Boyega is a Stormtrooper?
Finn (John Boyega) is a main character in the film and likely not a Stormtrooper. It appears that his character is only disguised as a Stormtrooper and arrives on the desert planet of Tatooine in an Escape Pod or is shot down.
3. Aren't all the Stormtroopers Clones?
The first Stormtroopers were clones but in Star Wars lore they were eventually replaced by natural beings after the events of 'Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith'.
4. What's up with that Soccer Ball Droid?
"These aren't the droids we're looking for." The "Soccer Ball Droid" is named BB-8 and looks like an interactive Astromech Droid. What's really important is that Tatooine is the former home planet of Luke Skywalker and his two droids, R2-D2 and C-3PO.
5. "Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?"
Here we see a Stormtrooper just slightly shorter than the rest. This could be John Boyega's character before he arrives at Tatooine.
6. Who is the girl on the Sandspeeder?
Her name is Rey (Daisy Ridley). Rey takes off on a Tatooine Sandspeeder in a rush to possibly salvage wreckage.
7. What are X-Wings doing flying over water?
Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) pilots the X-Wing starfighter in this scene. This battle could possibly take place on Kamino, the watery world where the Clone Army was first created.
8. Why a Triple-Bladed Lightsaber?
Kylo Ren's Lightsaber is heavily inspired by the Medieval crusader sword. A single-bladed Lightsaber requires a great deal of control. Only a powerful and dangerous adversary could wield a "Triple-Bladed Lightsaber."
9. Who is flying the Millennium Falcon?
We can assume Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and his co-pilot Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) are flying the Millennium Falcon as it barrel rolls over Tatooine past Imperial TIE Fighters.
10. Why is the title missing Episode VII?
The film is officially titled 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'. When The Walt Disney Company agreed to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. back in 2012 George Lucas said, "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers." The first six Star Wars Episodes were distributed by Twentieth Century Fox.
