The director of Ice Cube's "It Was a Good Day" music video is in talks to direct Straight Outta Compton, the N.W.A biopic. F. Gary Gray (Law Abiding Citizen, The Italian Job) beat out contenders John Singleton, George Tillman and Elgin James to direct Straight Outta Compton for Warner's New Line Cinema.
Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center) wrote the script that details the rise of the legendary West Coast "gangsta rap" group N.W.A and its members Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella. Eazy-E, born Eric Wright, died in 1995 due to AIDS-related causes.
Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez are producing the movie via Cube Vision. Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Woods, who inherited his share of the song rights, also is producing. Source: THR
