Plot Summary
From writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson (The Master), "Inherent Vice" stars Joaquin Phoenix as Larry "Doc" Sportello, a Southern California PI investigating the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend's wealthy boyfriend (Eric Roberts). Along the way, he uncovers a pileup of conspiracies and faked deaths, heroin cartels and pimps. Josh Brolin co-stars as a hippie-hating L.A. cop, Owen Wilson as a surf-band saxophonist, Reese Witherspoon as a deputy DA and Doc's part-time squeeze, and newcomer Katherine Waterston plays Doc's former girlfriend Shasta Fay Hepworth. "Inherent Vice" is adapted from Thomas Pynchon's gonzo 2009 novel.
