'The Theory of Everything' star Felicity Jones is going from stargazing to Star Wars.
The Oscar-nominated actress has landed the female lead in the first Star Wars stand-alone movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In addition to episodes of the new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney are developing stand-alone movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.
Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) will direct the first stand-alone film, with a screenplay by Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass). Josh Trank (Fantastic Four, Chronicle) is set to direct the second.
The untitled 'Star Wars' stand-alone movie is due to arrive in theaters on December 16, 2016, a year after Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters.
