Walt Disney Studios announce 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides', animated 'Frankenweenie', 'Yellow Submarine 3D' and 'The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made' at the second day of the D23 Expo.
In 2011, fans will be treated to the eagerly awaited animated version of Tim Burton's early live-action featurette 'Frankenweenie'. And to the delight of the crowd, Dick Cook, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios also revealed that coming down the pike will be 'Yellow Submarine', a 3D performance-capture version of the classic 1968 Beatles animated film complete with one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. And lastly, Disney will soon be making a brand-new Muppet movie called 'The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever Made!' Seriously — that's the title. To celebrate the occasion, everyone's favorite cast of characters, including Piggy and Kermit, sailed onto the stage on a replica of the Mark Twain boat to sing a few songs, ending with "Rainbow Connection." Looking around the room, smiles were everywhere.
Johnny Depp (in full Jack Sparrow costume), surprised the Disney D23 Expo audience on his pirate ship asking, "Has anyone else witnessed a talking frog? Where has the frog gone?" Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' is due in the summer of 2011.
Dick Cook also announced the studio in collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth," "The Hobbit"), is launching a new production label called Disney Double Dare You (DDY), to create new animated films for audiences of all ages. Del Toro is currently directing back-to-back feature film adaptations of the Tolkien classic, "The Hobbit," for release in 2011 and 2012. Source
