Charlize Theron to Star in Sympathy for Lady Vengeance Remake
Charlize Theron has signed on to star in the English language remake of Park Chan-wook's Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.
William Monahan, who won an Academy Award for adapting the Hong Kong crime-thriller Infernal Affairs into The Departed, has been tapped to write the script. Annapurna Pictures is coming on board to finance the project.
The 2005 South Korean movie centered on a woman who is released from prison after serving 13 years for the kidnapping and murder of a young boy. When reunited with her daughter, she plots revenge against the man that was truly responsible for the boy's death.

"This will be very American and very unexpected," said Monahan in a statement. "Park is a genius; it's the Everest of adaptations and I've got blood in my teeth to do it."
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is the second Park Chan-wook film being remade for English-language audiences. Spike Lee is directing the remake of Oldboy starring Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley and Elizabeth Olsen. Source: THR
