Mary Pickford Biopic Titled 'The First'
Lily Rabe and Jude Law star in the upcoming indie biopic.
Poverty Row Entertainment, a production company headed by Al Pacino's daughter producer Julie Pacino and director Jennifer DeLia, has titled its upcoming Mary Pickford biopic, The First, reports The Wrap.
The film, based on Eileen Whitfield's biography "Pickford: The Woman Who Made Hollywood," will star Lily Rabe as silent-film star Mary Pickford "America's Sweetheart." Pickford captured the imagination of the public as "Little Mary," the adolescent with spunk.
She married swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks, played by Jude Law, and with Charlie Chaplin and D.W. Griffith they formed United Artists, the first production company run by people who acted and directed.
Universally loved, a fashion icon, and the face of a multitude of products, Pickford became the world's first movie mega-star and most beloved icon, kicking off the still-thriving practice of celebrity worship.
Josh Fagin, who co-produced last year's Warrior, wrote the script. Production on The First will begin in early 2013.
